Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I'm a local that has eaten here maybe 3 times since it opened. The food tastes good and servings are huge, but the consequences a day after has taught me that this restaurant may not be the best choice. I don't normally have issues with Mexican food, but others have told me that they also have had similar experiences. Service is variable dependent on who served is. If you can handle the food, it might be a great choice.

Over the past couple of years the quality of the food has improved. The service is good, the staff is friendly. I am a regular here now and chose it over the other option in town.

Best thing going for them is walking distance from Comfort Inn. Food is just OK. Chips are greasy and salsa bland. Meals were decent, but lacking in flavor. The queso dip was tasty. I think they close at 10 on Saturday, we arrived at 9:15, don't think it was appreciated, staff was busy cleaning, seemed like they Wanted to close early. Beer was cold.

I was visiting a friend in SE Iowa and we went here for dinner. She and I both worked in a Mexican restaurant for years and love Mexican food, especially "authentic." Having been a vegetarian for many years, I ordered the vegetarian fajitas. It was huge portion, but about halfway through, I noticed there were several chunks of chicken in my fajita. I tried to get the server's attention and she finally stopped by after about ten minutes. I told her there was chicken in my fajita and she told me, "Ok, I'll let the cook know." About 15 minutes later, she came back and told me, "Yeah, the cook said sometimes chicken falls into the veggie fajitas." To which I said, "But that's not OK to a vegetarian, that's why I ordered a vegetarian meal." She shrugged her shoulders and asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. About ten minutes after that, the manager came over and said, "Yeah, sometimes chicken falls into the veggie fajitas." He asked what I wanted him to do and I said to discount my meal. He asked if I would like a $3 off coupon for my next visit (I live 600 miles away), I declined so he took $3 off my meal. I really didn't find that impressive. No one spoke English well at all (including the manager), which was certainly an issue while trying to convey the problem but, regardless of the language barriers, they clearly just didn't care. Aside from taking over a half hour to "resolve" the meal issue, the service was inattentive at best. The food was decent and the portions huge, but still not worth the total lack of service.

The waiter messed up two of our meals and charged our 6 year old for an adult meal. While we were there we watched another couple walk out on their meal. When I explained to the waiter our concerns he sent us to the front. At the front the cashier translated to the "manager" ( who we were informed actually lives in Washington by the " manager" that required a translator) he stated he could not rectify the over charge because he was not in charge. He could not say who was. I was not asking for a free meal only a reparation for poor service. Shame on you mi pueblo real

I love the food and we always have a positive experience dining in. If you order food for pick up though, make sure to check if the order is correct. We have had some bad experiences with missing taco shells...missing salsa...wrong food, etc. it is very frustrating to get the food home only to find out you have to go back. we have had more wrong orders than right orders with carry-out, so use caution. on the other hand, when we dine it we usually have no problems.

Ate there Sunday and again today, two days later, for dinner. Fish tacos were good; second time I asked for less salt and it was perfect. Also had enchilada with spinach, which was a good way to get some dark green veggies. Likewise the big fat chile relleno which was a little spicy, filled with creamy cheese and topped with white sauce. The veggie fajita was a heaping mound of broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, peppers, onion, yellow and green zucchini. The two of us shared it to get more than our recommended daily serving of vegetables. Ask for extra tortillas if you want them.

Took my daughter here after her concert. Service was fast. Food was good. Price was great.

You know, this place is so hit or miss that its hard to give an accurate rating. I go fairly often and sometimes it is phenomenal. The margaritas will taste great, chips and salsa are good and fresh and the dinner is great and the food will come out in no time. Then, the next time you go...the server will be not so great, the food will take forever and you will get gut rut from the bad margaritas. My boyfriend and I used to go for a pitcher of margaritas in the summer. We went one and the server was mad at us for just ordering the margaritas...while we sat at the bar, mind you, its not like we were taking a booth, that they spiked our salsa with TONS of hot sauce and laughed at us while we commented how hot it was. LAME BALLS with a sick of dick-ish. Some pointers for the place....go on Wednesdays for their $1.99 margaritas. Get their fajitas for two. They are around $20 and you can get a few meals out of them. Overall, don't expect it to be good, because you've got a 50/50 shot of that.

I originally sent this in a Facebook message as I am not one to make a big deal. But since I never got any type of response I thought this would be my next step. A little back story, my boyfriend drives a truck and spends 4-7 days a week in Mount Pleasant and I am there with him the majority of the time. The place is right across the street from the hotel he stays out and I mean we can just walk across the street. BUT because of all of this I will never step foot in this place again and I advise anyone else looking for a good mexican place to skip this place. So since I could not find an email address to send my complaint to i thought this would be the next best thing. I live on the quad cities Illinois. My boyfriend, his sister, their cousin and I came to your Mount Pleasant location to have dinner. When we first got there, I stood at the hostess counter for a minute and waited. A young blond girl walked up, looked at the seating chart, looked at me and walked away. Did not say one word. She returned after about two minutes and asked "one?" I said no four she said ok, gathered menus and flatware and showed us to out table. She asked what we wanted to drink and this is when I knew there was going to be a problem. Their cousin asked if they had daiquiris and she said no. I stated virgin daiquiris and she said all they had were margaritas. I the showed her on the menu that it said non alcoholic daiquiris. She said oh and wrote it down. The rest of us ordered diet Pepsi. She left and returned with our drinks. She asked if we were ready to order and I stated not yet she said ok and waited and came back. I ordered the beef and chocked fajitas for two for my boyfriend and I with no guac. I ordered and order of soft chicken tacos with just chicken and cheese. I could tell she was knew so i didn't go too fast. She was writing as I was saying it. She the. Asked what kind of tacos beef? I said no chicken soft shell just chicken and cheese and a side of beans and rice. She wrote again and asked so you want two and I said no i want an order and I repeated it for a third time. Their cousin ordered a grilled shrimp salad in which the server had to look at the menu for whatever reason. I could tell there was going to be problems but I never expected the service. When our food was brought to the table everything seemed ok till she opened her tacos and they were not just chicken and cheese, there was guac on my fajita plate which did not have cheese and she didn't get her beans and rice. I explained that this was suppose to have no guac and the tacos were suppose to be just chicken and cheese. She took the fajita plate and walked away and then came back with a plate without guac. I told her again that the tacos were suppose to be just chicken and cheese. She took the taco plate and said she would have them remake then. She came back with the same tacos and proceeded to tell me that the sauce was mixed in "with the chicken or maybe the cheese" she wasnt too sure apparently. She then said "it's the way you ordered them that's why they came out like that" I have been in food service for 16 years as a server, bartender, and a manager and I have always been taught the customer is always right and in this case I was right. I explained to the server that I ordered it with just chicken and cheese. I don't place the order i just give it to you. So go over to the window and have them make them with just chicken and cheese please. She walked away and another guy came over and I had to explain to him what I wanted. He said she was new and that they were remaking it. So her tacos came after the rest of us were done eating. When he brought them he said he gave her an extra one so now there was three. I told him there should have been three because that is what I ordered. He said you did. I said yes. He walked away. We had to wait way too long to get our check. I got tired of waiting and went up to the cashier which was the guy who brought the tacos over. She brought over check over and I said I had a problem paying for tacos that didnt come till the rest of us were done eating. He gave me a total that was $5 cheaper, said with an attitude. Never once asked how the rest of my meal was or apologized. Like I said, I have been in food service my whole and customer service and have NEVER received service like this. I would really like a response to this because I would hate to think this is how you treat customers.

Boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner on our way to Missouri. The place is huge and has a nice ambiance. Boyfriend ordered a margarita and it came out really fast! My orange soda was a little flat/had an off taste. The chips and salsa were really good; the salsa wasn't too sweet or too spicy. It just had plenty of flavor and fresh cilantro (yum!). Our server was a little spotty. Our meals took a really long time (which he blamed on "problems in the kitchen"...even though we could see the kitchen and no mad chaos was going on, nor was the place overly busy), and then he forgot the tortillas for the meal. He also never stopped back about chips and salsa or more drinks until after we got our food, and then left any/all dirty plates sitting on the table. I didn't have much of an appetite when we stopped (not enough to finish a whole meal anyway) so I ordered off of the ala carte menu. Mistake. Their soft shell taco is really bad. Just a watery, beefy mess. On the other hand, Boyfriend loved his meal; said it was one of the best Mexican meals he'd ever had. Lucky me got a taste and yes, I can definitely say that the Pollo con Chorizo is a GREAT option from Mi Pueblo Real. Another table by us said they come here 3-4 times per week and love everything, so I must have totally ordered the wrong thing. Before we left, I stopped into the ladies' room and someone was talking super loud in Spanish on their cell phone in a stall. When I was washing my hands, an employee came out of that stall and followed me straight out the door...WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. For the love of God man! That is just nasty. So the bottom line is: their regulars say the food is great, and Boyfriend's meal was really good, but the no hand washing thing just freaks me out.
